Stud: Myles Garrett

Before this game, defensive end Myles Garrett started talking about how he wanted to be included in the discussion for the NFL Defensive Player of the Year. That likely is still a long way off, but that has more to do with the fact that Aaron Donald of the Los Angeles Rams is running away with the award.

As for what Garrett does on the field, he’s deserving of praise. And in this one, he stood out more than once. He was credited with just one tackle, but that one was a quarterback sack. He also had another couple quarterback hurries and a hit.

Garrett also showed up on special teams. After the Browns went up 7-0, the Bengals answered with a 10-play, 53-yard drive.

That drive stalled and the Bengals had to settle for a field goal try, but Garrett had other plans. The defensive end got his hand up and blocked the attempt, which not only took points off the board but set the tone that nothing would come easy for the Bengals in this game.

What’s most frustrating though was the lack of calls going his way. There were several instances where Garrett got into the backfield, but couldn’t finish the play as he was completely mauled.

Somehow, the refs continued to allow it — just like they allow hits to Baker Mayfield‘s head. Hopefully one day he will get the calls because if he starts costing teams 10 yards for penalties a couple times a game, that could help the Browns tremendously.
