The Cleveland Browns head coaching vacancy will be one of the best jobs available because of the presence of Baker Mayfield.

Cleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield has quickly become one of the best young quarterbacks in the NFL.

Ever since the Browns made changes at head coach and offensive coordinator, Mayfield’s performance has taken off.

In the three games since Hue Jackson and Todd Haley were fired, Mayfield has completed 73.9 percent of his passes for 771 yards, nine touchdowns, and one interception.

With Jackson and Haley at the helm, Mayfield was completing only 58.3 percent of his passes for 1,471 yards, eight touchdowns, and six interceptions.

Not only did Mayfield survive the poor coaching from Jackson and Haley, but he has thrived since the firings. He did not let the drama hold him back and he has excelled since the change.

How he has handled the instability in his first season shows Mayfield’s strong mentality. Since his days at Oklahoma, everyone knew that Mayfield can overcome adversity – starting as a walk-on before earning a scholarship – to become one of the best college quarterbacks. He has never let anything hold him back, and he is already showing that his play can still grow despite being put into a situation with poor coaching.

He is showing the talent and the potential that made him the first overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. And he is already making the Cleveland Browns head coaching job one of, if not the best, jobs available in the off-season.

Coaches that interview to become the head man of a NFL team are hoping they can get their hands on an established quarterback or a young quarterback that can be groomed. The Browns job is going to be one of the only jobs available that can give a head coach candidate the opportunity to have a quarterback just like that.

In Mayfield, a head coach will be getting a little bit of both of those aspects, as Mayfield will have nearly an entire season of experience, but is still showing that he is learning new things each and every week.

And not only is Mayfield making himself better, he is helping his weapons perform better. He is not targeting one receiver that can make almost every play. Instead, he is distributing the ball to multiple receivers that are not known for being game-breakers. His passes are being put into spots where only his receivers can make a play on the ball, and it has helped players that have struggled – Antonio Callaway and Breshad Perriman – start making plays.

The Browns also boast a young but extremely talented defense. And not to mention the Browns are one of the teams with the most cap space available in the off-season.

With Mayfield leading the Browns, coaches should be lining up outside of the Browns facility in Berea for a chance to interview for the head coaching job, because they may not find a better job in this upcoming head coaching cycle.
