Cleveland Browns rookie Baker Mayfield played nine games in the state of Texas for Oklahoma and was absolutely insane in those games.

Recently honored as the Rookie of the Month for November, Cleveland Browns rookie quarterback Baker Mayfield is set to face a huge task this weekend. He and the Browns will play the Houston Texans, who enter Week 13 on an eight-game losing streak.

While Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson gets a ton of credit — deservedly so — Houston boasts a defense that’s just as dangerous. Players like J.J. Watt, Jadeveon Clowney, Benardrick McKinney, and Whitney Mercilus have made life hard on offenses all season long.

Fortunately for the Browns, they come into this game playing well, which gives them plenty of confidence. They could also gain more confidence by taking a look at how well Mayfield has played when he enters the Lone-Star state.

Our own Martin McConnell looked at how Mayfield, a Texas native, has done in the state in a piece he recently put out with NFL Spin Zone.

"“Since 2015, the year he arrived at Oklahoma, Mayfield has played nine games in Texas. His stats in those games are staggering. Mayfield is 7-2 in those games, good for a .777 winning percentage. Individually, he has thrown for 315.7 passing yards per game, with a completion rate of 70.4 percent. Finally, and perhaps the most gaudy stat of all, he has thrown for 27 touchdowns and four interceptions.” — McConnell on NFL Spin Zone"

While this isn’t necessarily the same thing as playing in the NFL against one of the best teams in the AFC, it’s pretty impressive the way Mayfield is able to turn it up a notch in the state where he was born.

Mayfield even tried to start his college career in Texas as he was a walk-on at Texas Tech before transferring to Oklahoma.

On Sunday, he has a shot to grow his legend in his home state. And Browns fans will be thrilled if he does.
