A source has told FanSided that the Cleveland Browns are already working on hiring Mike McCarthy after he was let go by the Green Bay Packers

We have all been connecting the dots between Mike McCarthy and the Cleveland Browns for weeks now. After the Browns fired Hue Jackson, one name that kept popping up was McCarthy’s.

Of course, this was all dependent on the former Super Bowl winner losing his job with the Green Bay Packers, which seemed highly likely. That expectation became a reality as McCarthy was relieved of his duties on Sunday after a 20-17 loss to the Arizona Cardinals.

Now, there are reports surfacing that not only are the Browns interested, but they could already be working on a deal. FanSided’s Matt Verderame is reporting that the team is serious about moving on him immediately.

More from Dawg Pound Daily

"“Sources have told FanSided that the Browns are already working on whether they will hire McCarthy. McCarthy has obvious ties to the Cleveland front office, most-notably general manager John Dorsey, vice president of player personnel Alonzo Highsmith and assistant general manager Eliot Wolf.” — Verderame, FanSided.com"

For the Browns, this makes sense. General manager John Dorsey has never hired a coach before and would likely lean toward someone he knows and trusts. Dorsey was with Green Bay when McCarthy won the Super Bowl, and he did so with Aaron Rodgers under center.

While Baker Mayfield isn’t in the same class as Rodgers is now, he does have all the tools and was the No. 1 overall pick. There’s sure to be a belief from Dorsey that McCarthy can get the most out of Mayfield as they look to develop him into the next big thing in the NFL.

There are also plenty of concerns with McCarthy as he failed to meet expectations over the past few seasons. Not only has he had some pretty big game management blunders, but he also struggled to put together wins without Rodgers which brings into question how much of the success was on the quarterback’s shoulders instead of McCarthy’s.

Next. There is no need to panic Browns fans. dark

Whatever the reservations of the fans are, it seems like this could be a real possibility. And sources are of the belief something is already underway.
