NFL analyst says Mike McCarthy will not be Cleveland Browns head coach
By Dan Justik
Despite the rumors that the Cleveland Browns are in the process of hiring Mike McCarthy, Steve Wyche of NFL Network says he will not be the next head coach.
Immediately after the Green Bay Packers fired Mike McCarthy as their head coach, there were reports that the Cleveland Browns were in the process of hiring McCarthy as their next head coach.
Matt Verderame of FanSided reported on December 2nd, just after hours the Packers fired McCarthy, that the Browns were considering replacing interim head coach Gregg Williams with McCarthy at the end of the 2018 season.
However, Ryan Glasspiegel from The Big Lead shared that NFL Network’s Steve Wyche said that McCarthy will not be the next head coach of the Cleveland Browns.

Wyche also joined The D.A. Show on CBS Sports Radio and said McCarthy may consider taking a year off next season.
"“I also heard that things have really taken a toll on Mike McCarthy, and he really might not be necessarily wanting to jump into the water. He may want to take a year off. But he’s got some time now to kind of figure out his next move.” – Steve Wyche on CBS Sports Radio"
McCarthy has obvious connections with the Cleveland Browns front office. During McCarthy’s time with the Packers, he was the head coach when John Dorsey, Eliot Wolf, and Alonzo Highsmith were all members of the Packers front office.
With those connections, it would make a lot of sense for McCarthy to be one of the favorites for the Browns head coaching vacancy. However, no one is sure if Dorsey would want to bring in his own guy or someone he is familiar with since this Dorsey’s first time leading a head coaching search.
Dorsey may want to find a head coach that would mesh well with franchise quarterback Baker Mayfield. After McCarthy’s battles with Aaron Rodgers over the past couple of seasons, the former Packers coach may not be the best fit with Mayfield.
Without knowing how Dorsey is handling the coaching search, it is hard to say that there is a favorite for the vacant head coaching job. But there is at least one NFL analyst that believes McCarthy will not be the man on the Cleveland Browns sidelines next season.
