Cleveland Browns: Studs and duds in Week 14 win over Carolina
By Randy Gurzi
The Cleveland Browns defeated the Carolina Panthers for their fifth win of the season. Here were the players who stood out, both good and bad, in the win.
After a rough outing a week ago, the Cleveland Browns got back on track in a big way in Week 14. They were able to put the terrible outing against the Houston Texans in the rearview, and once again delivered a strong performance in front of their home crowd at First Energy Stadium.
While they hung with the Carolina Panthers all day, Cleveland wasn’t leading until the fourth quarter. After falling behind 7-0 early, the Browns responded with a quick score of their own, and never trailed by more than one score.
Eventually, the defense got enough stops and Nick Chubb ran in a go-ahead touchdown early in the final quarter. Now sitting at 5-7-1, the Browns continue their impressive run under interim coach Gregg Williams. We now can take some time to look back at the game with our weekly studs and duds.
Stud: Myles Garrett
Once again, Myles Garrett was all over the field for the Browns. He was in the backfield constantly and ended this game with five tackles and a sack — with two total tackles for a loss. Garrett also forced a fumble which looked to be recovered by Cleveland until reviewed.
Garrett has continued his breakout season which sees him now with 12.5 sacks on the year. He keeps proving to be well worth the no. 1 overall pick that was spent on him in 2017. He’s the leader of this defense, even if he’s not the most vocal player. His effort each and every game is contagious and had plenty to do with the Browns win on Sunday.
