The period between 2008 and 2017 has been one of the more difficult stretches for Browns fans when it comes to quarterback play. Into this gloom, this performance by McCown was a ray of light. In fact, this wasn’t just a bright spot, it was a record day. McCown completed 36-of-51 passes for a Browns single-season record 457 yards. His quarterback rating for the day was 111.3.

What made this game even more memorable was that the Browns had to come back from a 21-9 third-quarter deficit to take the lead only to see the game go into overtime. But it was one of those games where you just felt if the Browns could just get the ball into the hands of McCown the game would end with a Browns victory, and McCown did not disappoint. McCown led the Browns on a 50-yard drive to set up a 32-yard game-winning field goal.

McCown did not always inspire confidence in Browns fans, but he showed flashes of being what he has always been – a gritty, veteran quarterback who is capable of capturing lightning in a bottle. In this case, he turned back the clock and gave Browns fans a glimmer of hope in what have been some less than hopeful seasons.
