Why the Cleveland Browns should re-sign Breshad Perriman
By Mitch Zoloty
Breshad Perriman seems to have found his role in the NFL on the Cleveland Browns. With his contract up at the end of the season, here is why the Browns should re-sign the former 1st round pick.
Breshad Perriman can officially be classified as a first-round bust. His career on the Ravens was lackluster, only lasting two seasons in Baltimore. However, he still has the potential to have a good NFL career.
Perriman has been reviving his career on the Cleveland Browns. He is having career highs in yards per catch, with 19.9 yards per catch, and catch percentage, catching 64.7 percent of his targets. These are both really good numbers, especially considering he didn’t have training camp to build chemistry with Baker Mayfield.
Now, Perriman is not the solution for the Browns need of a receiver to play opposite of Jarvis Landry. The Browns should still look to add an elite receiver to fill that role. However, Perriman has emerged as a receiver the Browns could rely on for depth.

Perriman hasn’t had more than two catches in a game for the Browns. In the 8 games he has been on the team, he only has 17 targets. Most of those targets have been deep passes, which is Perriman’s bread and butter.
He isn’t a receiver that can get you 10 catches for 100 yards a game, but he is a good spark plug.
His performance against the Panthers is a good example of what he brings to the team. As a spark plug, Perriman can come in and provide big plays, like his 66 yard reception on the Browns first offensive play of the game.
He would disappear for the rest of the game, only making one more catch in the 4th quarter for 15 yards which helped the Browns clinch the game.
The spark plug role is something that the Browns have needed. Missing Josh Gordon’s explosive play making ability, Perriman can help fill that void. Especially for his cheap contract, which is currently 1 year for 700k, the Browns should look to bring him back next season.
At 25 years old, it is very possible he hasn’t reached his ceiling yet. The Browns should look to extend Perriman for a few years, hopefully at a cheap price. If they can keep his contract under 3 million dollars a year, which seems very likely at the moment, John Dorsey shouldn’t hesitate to bring him back.
