There are those who have begun to wonder aloud if the Cleveland Browns are now America’s Team — and former offensive tackle Joe Thomas is among them.

Uh, sorry Cleveland Browns fans, this one just doesn’t feel right.

There’s been this sudden trend of late that the Browns should take on the moniker of ‘America’s Team.’

And to that, Joe Thomas, Browns future hall-of-fame former left tackle and guy who apparently thinks it’s okay to nickname yourself  agreed in a recent tweet.

"“@Hawk and I have only said this like 7316 times.”"

In reality, Joe was basically saying , let’s gather together and dub the Cleveland Browns ‘America’s Team.’

Okay, and then what?

America will forget about its long term relationship with the Dallas Cowboys and suddenly consider the Browns ‘America’s Team‘?

All because a few high-profile Browns fans said it should be that way?

Sorry, Joe, Dan, real nicknames don’t work that way.

Just ask Spiderman actor and guy who’d prefer we all call him ‘Tugboat’ Tobey Maguire.

And that’s no joke.

Maguire had meltdowns at least six times because nobody would call him by the nickname which he dubbed himself: Tugboat Tobey.

Including the time when Maguire refused to take the Teen Choice Awards stage in 2003 after Freddie Prinze Jr. introduced him as “Tobey Tugboat”.

At which point, according to clickhole.com, Maguire, the actor being honored, stood on his seat and shouted:

“It’s ‘Tugboat Tobey,’ you shrew. Reversing the order is worse than calling me ‘Tobey Maguire,’ for f’s sake!”

Is that really how Joe Thomas, Dan Katz and Browns fans want it to go with ‘America’s Team’?

What happens when we nickname ourselves that and the announcer accidentally says, “Give it up for the Browns, Team America!”

Are we really going to be all that shocked or offended?

No, just embarrassed.

Truth be told, the 2018 Cleveland Browns absolutely represent what America is all about – the idea that in this country if you work hard enough and play by the rules you’ll have the opportunity to become the champion of whatever you set your mind towards.

That’s exactly what the Browns are in the middle of doing right now.

dark. Next. Top 5 rookie seasons since 1999

So forget about being ‘America’s Team‘ or any other already-used nickname and be patient. Let the world watch the Cleveland Browns as they return to glory and they’ll come up with a killer nickname based on that.

It’s a far better way to go – just ask Tobey Tugboat, for f’s sake.
