Cleveland Browns 2019 Draft Needs: Wide receiver prospects to consider
By Shane Carter
Parris Campbell, Ohio State
Many Browns fans that live in Ohio are probably Buckeye fans too, so this player is no stranger to them. Parris Campbell has been the Swiss Army knife of Ohio State during his time.
Not only is he a thousand-yard receiver but he’s got a pair of rushing touchdowns to his name, as well as returned kicks for two seasons. His size is solid (6-1, 210-pounds) but his skill set has a wide variety.
Campbell would make a lot of sense as a draft pick:
1) He’s a Buckeye (re-read first sentence).
2) They wouldn’t need to use a first round pick on him.
3) They don’t need to draft a number one receiver and he’s already an upgrade over some of the ones on the roster.
More than likely, Campbell is a Day 2 prospect but has serious upside. He’d be a great weapon to have in their receiver rotation.
Kahlil Lewis, Cincinnati
One of my favorite hidden gems in the entire 2019 draft class is Khalil Lewis. From a lesser known Ohio school than Campbell, but with just as much skill.
If you want to know how good Kahlil Lewis is, go watch his game vs. Michigan in 2017. While his team lost, Lewis was torching defenders. A secondary full of NFL talent and Lewis was beating all of them like drums. If not for subpar quarterback play, his numbers would’ve been staggering.
Personally, I’d give a Day 2 grade on him but he will likely fall to Day 3. Despite good hands and route running, as well as his ability to block downfield, he’s got average size (6-0, 200-pounds) and plays for a school that doesn’t get a lot of attention.
The pro days and combines will be his time to shine. The Browns shouldn’t overlook what could be a steal.
