Cleveland Browns RB Nick Chubb reaches 1,000 rushing yards milestone
By Dan Justik
Editors note: Chubb finished the season with 996 rushing yards after losing yardage throughout the course of the Ravens game.
Cleveland Browns running back Nick Chubb is the first Browns player to reach 1,000 rushing yards in a single season since 2010.
In just his rookie season, Cleveland Browns running back Nick Chubb broke the 1,000 rushing yards in a single season milestone during the first quarter against the Baltimore Ravens.
Chubb is the first Browns player to reach the season milestone since Peyton Hillis accomplished the feat in 2010. Only two other Browns have accomplished the milestone since the team returned in 1999 – Reuben Droughns in 2005 and Jamal Lewis in 2007 and 2008.
The rookie running back accomplished the feat with just 187 carries this season. Chubb started the season as the team’s third string running back and was not receiving many carries at the beginning of the season.

In the first six games of the season, Chubb only rushed the ball 16 times. He rewarded the Browns offense with those carries, rushing for 173 yards and two touchdowns.
During the Browns Week 4 game against the Oakland Raiders, Chubb only carried the ball three times. However, he turned those three carries into a 105-yard, two touchdown performance. His two touchdowns went for 63 yards and 41 yards.
Since Week 7, Chubb has rushed for 837 yards and six touchdowns on 171 carries, which is when he broke 1,000 rushing yards. On the season, he has averaged 5.3 yards per carry.
Chubb has broken 100 yards rushing in four different games this season, including his season high 176-yard performance against the Atlanta Falcons in Week 10. In that game, Chubb broke a 92-yard touchdown run, the longest run in franchise history.
Chubb holds the most single-season rushing yards by a rookie in franchise history, a record previously held by Trent Richardson and his 950 rushing yards in 2012. Chubb broke Richardson’s record in the Browns Week 16 match-up against the Cincinnati Bengals.
Chubb was the 35th overall selection in the 2018 NFL Draft and he has been a big part in helping reinvigorate the Browns offense. With Baker Mayfield at quarterback, the Browns appear to have their backfield setup for the future.
