After a great season with some great young talent, the Cleveland Browns are beginning to reap the rewards. Quarterback Baker Mayfield and running back Nick Chubb have both been nominated for the Pepsi Rookie of the Year.

Playing well as a rookie, in any sport, is exceedingly hard. Playing well as a rookie in football, at two of the game’s most important and complicated positions, is even harder. But, the Cleveland Browns struck gold in the 2018 NFL Draft, and their young stars are being recognized.

Both quarterback Baker Mayfield and running back Nick Chubb have been nominated for the Pepsi Rookie of the Year award, which will be decided on by a fan vote.

Starting with Mayfield, his fantastic play down the season’s final stretch was an incredible achievement. He is now likely the odds-on favorite to win the award, with New York Giants running back Saquon Barkley most likely to be the runner-up.

Barkley all but had the award locked up in October, but Mayfield came on strong, and will certainly be in good position to take home the trophy.

On the other side of the coin, Chubb is more of an outsider. Sure, he could take home the award, but it’s highly unlikely for the Georgia product. That’s not to discount the amazing season Chubb had, posting nearly 1,000 yards after getting minimal carries at the outset of the season.

Mayfield will likely be voted the higher of the two, after setting the rookie touchdown record, but Chubb’s work as a rookie will be remembered by all Browns fans for years to come.
