Even after Baker’s enormous success as a rookie for a starving Cleveland Browns franchise, one national radio host has chosen his ego over logic.

Dear Colin,

Considering you are one of the highest paid radio personalities in the entire world, I cannot imagine that your ratings are that bad that you have to feel the need to beat the dead horse that is your stance on Cleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield.

Maybe your ego has reached an all-time high that you cannot admit that you are wrong, maybe you truly think you are right; either way your anti-Cleveland and anti-Baker shtick is getting old.

More from Browns News

At the very beginning you may have had a point; Baker Mayfield was a wildcard in college, and taking him first overall was definitely a risk, but after his record-breaking rookie season can’t you just admit that you may have underestimated the young man’s ability? Continuously choosing to bash the inevitable Rookie of the Year seems like a desperate cry for attention.

Your first take: Mayfield isn’t a team player and is undraftable. Mayfield came on your show to tell you to shove it and you have been proven wrong as multiple teammates, past and present, have come to his defense. Did you watch Hard Knocks or any time Baker was mic’d up on Sunday? Do you check your twitter or do you only come out of the woodwork when the rookie makes a couple of mistakes?

After Mayfield came in for the injured Tyrod Taylor and led the Browns to a win on Primetime football, all you can seem to talk about is how he checked his phone after the game?

A rookie in his first career appearance took a team that had not won a game in 19 attempts to a comeback victory and you find a reason to attempt to strip him of the credit that he deserves. Not only that, but also seven wins on the season. More than the past three years combined.

Then there was the Hue Jackson stare down; God-forbid a quarterback come into a city hungry for a leader and bring some grittiness and attitude. Of course you took offense to this as well saying you would rather have Sam Darnold leading your team moving forward because he is more grown up than Mayfield; 30 teams scoffed at you and added you to a list to never hire as a general manager. You and Mike Silver should get a drink sometime; I think you two would hit it off. You really are the Grinch.

Freddie Kitchens gets promoted to head coach, a move that the majority of Cleveland has rejoiced, and your take is that the city has low self-esteem; you really know the way to a fanbase’s heart.

The national media has made Cleveland the butt of their jokes for so long, and now Baker has the city fighting back. Yet somehow, you manage to spew hot garbage when the Browns will no longer submit to this narrative that they are just “the Browns.” You and the national media have managed to look past the antics of Aaron Rodgers, Tom Brady, and Philip Rivers, but cannot wait to jump on Baker because he plays in Cleveland.

Keep adding fuel to the fire. If there is one thing that the city of Cleveland has learned, it is that Mayfield thrives off of it, and he has the rest of the team following. If you ever find yourself in town make sure not to forget your wallet, because drinks are not on us. We look forward to attending your funeral on the hill you have decided to die on.

Sincerely,

All of Cleveland
