The Cleveland Browns continue to add coaches to their staff with former Alabama defensive coordinator Tosh Lupoi coming over as the defensive line coach

Both the Cleveland Browns and Alabama Crimson Tide have had some coaching changes going on recently. In Cleveland, Freddie Kitchens took over the head coaching job and has followed that with a flurry of hirings as he rounds out his staff.

For the Tide, it’s been assistants being changed out. Head coach Nick Saban has had five assistants leave the program following their loss to Clemson and the latest to leave is defensive coordinator Tos Lupoi, who joins Cleveland as a defensive line coach.

Tupoi is a well-respected coach who spent two seasons as a defensive analyst for Alabama before taking over the role of linebackers coach in 2016 and 2017.

Then when Jeremy Pruitt left for the head coaching job in Tennessee, Lupoi was promoted to defensive coordinator, a title he held for just one season.

The young DC coached the Tide to the 12th best defense in the country as they surrendered just 18.1 points per game according to Tom Fornelli of CBSSports.com.

Before joining Alabama, Lupoi spent time with California and Washington as a defensive line coach. He played along the defensive line himself as a member of the Cal Golden Bears from 2000 through 2005. A former defensive end, Lupoi recorded 15 tackles and a sack in his senior season at Cal.
