Cleveland Browns: Denzel Ward to play in Pro Bowl despite recent concussion issues
By Randy Gurzi
Despite recent issues with concussions, Cleveland Browns rookie cornerback Denzel Ward will attempt to get some snaps in the 2019 NFL Pro Bowl
With the No. 4 overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, the Cleveland Browns had to make a tough decision between cornerback Denzel Ward and defensive end Bradley Chubb. Both were reportedly similarily graded by the front office.
The tiebreaker ended up being their need in the defensive backfield, so they went with the Ohio State cornerback. And they weren’t disappointed.
Ward was twice named the Pepsi Rookie of the Week and ended up being named to the Pro Bowl as well. However, there were questions about his availability after suffering two concussions at the end of the year that cost him three games down the stretch.

Recently a guest on the Browns in-house radio show, Ward put that speculation to rest by saying he will “definitely” play. He did add that there could be a limit to his snaps.
"“I don’t know how much I’ll play, but we’ll see. Just making sure I’m being safe for the upcoming season. That’s what my main focus us. But definitely going to go out there, and whatever plays I do have, have fun with that.’’ — Ward said on Cleveland Browns Daily via Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com"
In 13 games this season, Ward recorded 53 tackles, 11 pass defenses, and three interceptions — two of which came in his first game of the season as the Browns tied the Pittsburgh Steelers. Ward also added two fumble recoveries for Cleveland as he was often found around the ball.
Heading into his second season, there’s plenty of reasons to be excited about him as a potential No. 1 corner. While it’s good that he says his focus is on that, he does also deserve to enjoy the fun that comes with taking part in his first ever NFL all-star appearance.
