Cleveland Browns WR Jarvis Landry sets a Guinness World Record

While spending time in Atlanta for Super Bowl LIII, Cleveland Browns wide receiver Jarvis Landry set a Guinness World Record.

Cleveland Browns wide receiver Jarvis Landry has shown off his ability to make some phenomenal catches, whether it be during a game or during practices.

Landry has particularly shown off how strong his hands are as he has been able to make some crazy one-handed catches.

On Sunday, Landry was on the set of CBS Sports HQ for the lead up to Super Bowl LIII. While there, he set the Guinness World Record for most one-handed American football catches in one minute.

The previous Guinness World Record for most one-handed American football catches in one minute was 45 catches by Dane and Troy Stratton, set in May of 2017. Landry caught 48 passes, surpassing the record that has been held for more than a year-and-a-half.

Although it was coincidental, Landry was catching passes from Browns 2007 first-round pick Brady Quinn. Quinn, who last played in the NFL in 2012, currently works as an analyst for Fox Sports, but is spending time working for CBS Sports at the Super Bowl.

This record has been a common one for NFL wide receivers to attempt to break. In 2015, New York Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. set the record at the time with 33 catches. Beckham, who also beat the record during Super Bowl week, was catching passes from New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees.

One year later, Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Antonio Brown broke the Guinness World Record with 40 one-handed catches, also during Super Bowl week. Brown was catching passes from Kirk Cousins, who was playing for the Washington Redskins at the time.

The Super Bowl is a common place for NFL players to attempt to break Guinness World Records. In 2016, the year that Brown set the one-handed catch record, former Indianapolis Colts punter Pat McAfee and former Seattle Seahawks long snapper Nate Boyer set records. McAfee set the record for the longest blindfolded field goal and Boyer set the record for longest snap.

Unlike Beckham’s and Brown’s attempts at breaking this record, the number set by Landry and Quinn seems like it will be incredibly hard to beat. For reference, Landry caught 1.25 passes per second. Luckily for Landry and Quinn, they could hold this Guinness World Record for a long time.
