Greatest moments in Cleveland Browns history: 6. Dilly, Dilly!

The Cleveland Browns were 0-16 in 2017 and started out 2018 with a tie and a loss. That sent them into Week 3 against the New York Jets looking for their first win in 635 days. With the team not tasting victory since Dec. 24, 2016, fans were thirsty for a win. And they were thirsty for Bud Light.

Understanding how bad fans desperately craved a win, the beer company had installed ‘victory fridges’ in various locations around the Cleveland area which would give free beer away to fans once the Browns finally won a game. And that finally happened on Thursday Night Football in dramatic fashion.

After a slow start, quarterback Tyrod Taylor was knocked out of the game with a concussion and in came rookie Baker Mayfield. He proved to be the spark plug the team needed and led the Browns to a comeback win in Prime Time. And in doing so, the victory fridges were open. Mayfield greeted the fans with a “Dilly Dilly!” following the win and let the fans know there was more to come.

"“Dilly Dilly! to the Cleveland fans (laughter). It comes with it. It is not the only win that we are going to celebrate. It is a building block for us. We did some good things, but there is still a lot that we can work on. That is the great part about it. We are nowhere near where we want to be, but we are in a good spot to build a foundation and keep going.” — Mayfield said after the big win via Scott Patsko, Cleveland.com"

Mayfield and many other young stars have the Cleveland faithful excited about the future and the night of free beer really does feel like just the start.
