Free agents from NFC West teams the Cleveland Browns should target

Arizona Cardinals – Defensive Tackle Rodney Gunter
There were not many bright spots for the 2018 Arizona Cardinals, finishing the season as the worst team in the NFL and with the first overall draft selection. The poor season led to former head coach Steve Wilks being fired and becoming the Browns defensive coordinator.

One of the players that succeeded under Wilks and his defense was defensive tackle Rodney Gunter. The 27-year-old had the best season of his four-year career in 2018 and excelled in Wilks’ 4-3 defense.
Gunter played in all 16 games in 2018, starting 10, compiling 44 total tackles, 11 tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks, two forced fumbles, and nine quarterback hits. In his three previous seasons, Gunter had only made 51 total tackles, six tackles for loss, and 3.5 sacks.
Despite playing well in 2018, Gunter will likely be relatively cheap in free agency. The Cleveland Browns will be looking to add talented depth on the defensive line, and Gunter should be right up their alley.
Since he played so well under Wilks and Browns linebackers coach Al Holcomb, the two coaches may be in John Dorsey’s ear to bring Gunter’s services to Cleveland. Not only will he not be too expensive, but he has shown the potential of being a solid second starting defensive tackle.
