The Cleveland Browns have been quiet in free agency so far, but they are reportedly trying to add C.J. Mosley and Tyrell Williams.

Much to the chagrin of Cleveland Browns fans, general manager John Dorsey has yet to make a big move since the legal tampering period of free agency period began at noon Monday.

While other teams have been signing some of the top free agents available, the Browns have rarely been connected to many free agents.

But on Monday night, Browns fans heard some news about what the team is attempting to do. Benjamin Allbright tweeted the Browns are “trying” to add linebacker C.J. Mosley and wide receiver Tyrell Williams, but neither player is close to making a deal happen with Cleveland.

The Browns were connected to Mosley on Monday afternoon by Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com.  Cleveland is one of several teams that are reportedly interested in adding the 26-year-old linebacker.

Mosley played a key role in helping the Ravens defense become the top unit in the league last season. In 15 games, Mosley made 105 total tackles, six tackles for loss, 0.5 sacks, one interception, and five passes defended.

The Baltimore Ravens made the surprising decision to not tag Mosley, but are reportedly still interested in bringing him back. However, Mosley’s price tag may be too big for the Ravens to retain his services.

Mosley is reportedly looking for a deal averaging $15 million per season, according to NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport. Early Monday, Kwon Alexander agreed to a four-year, $54 million deal with the San Francisco 49ers. After seeing that contract, Mosley will likely want a bigger deal.

Williams was also connected to the Browns last week by Cabot. On March 7, Cabot reported that Williams would be “of strong interest” to the Browns. Williams is widely viewed as the best outside receiver in this free agent class, so he is likely drawing interest from multiple teams.

The 27-year-old wide receiver emerged as a legitimate vertical threat for the Los Angeles Chargers over the past couple of seasons. In 16 games and 10 starts last season, Williams caught 41 passes for 653 yards and five touchdowns. In 2016, Williams eclipsed 1,000 receiving yards and averaged 15.3 yards per reception.

With the Browns featuring multiple receivers that are better suited to play in the slot, they are in need of adding an outside receiver that can stretch the field vertically. At 6-foot-4 and 205 pounds, Williams has the size and speed to be a dangerous downfield option in Cleveland’s offense.

Both players are likely to sign some of the biggest contracts in this free agent class. They are at the top of their positions in the free agent class and have multiple teams reportedly pursuing their services. If the Browns want to land one or both players, they are going to have to take a good chunk out of their cap space.
