Cleveland Browns: Baker Mayfield dishes on Odell Beckham’s attitude
By Randy Gurzi
The Cleveland Browns landed wide receiver Odell Beckham, Jr. from the Giants and Baker Mayfield took time to discuss how OBJ’s personality will fit in with the team
During his tenure with the New York Giants, Odell Beckham, Jr. caught 390 passes for 5,476 yards and added 44 touchdowns. He routinely made highlight-reel catches and was one of the hardest players to cover in the entire NFL.
However, the new member of the Cleveland Browns receiving corps also made headlines for other reasons. Beckham was considered highly emotional and was seen more than once having a tantrum on the sidelines. The most famous instance was when he fought with — and lost to — a kicking net.
Given his big personality, it was only a matter of time before someone asked how that would mesh in Cleveland, and the first person to get the chance to answer that was quarterback Baker Mayfield. No. 6 answered the question about OBJ’s charismatic personality exactly like we expected him to.

"“You could say the same thing about me. You don’t want to tame it,” Mayfield said via Ben Axelrod of WKYC.com. “You just let them be themselves and make plays. That’s who they are. When it comes down to it, the guys in that locker room, you’re going to love playing with them.’"
Mayfield is right that he too has a big personality — as does Jarvis Landry who is Beckham’s best friend. In fact, OBJ, Landry, and Mayfield have all worked out together in the offseason which helped fuel the year-long trade rumors regarding Beckham and the Browns.
Everyone knew the question was going to be asked about Beckham, but the truth is his personality won’t matter. The new wideout in Cleveland is a lot like Landry.
They’re both passionate players fueled by emotion and they each care about winning. That doesn’t make either of them bad teammates at all, so there should be no kind of character concern at all in Cleveland.
Kudos to Baker for fielding that question with ease, and he will probably continue to do so as such questions will continue to be asked.
