Many younger Cleveland Browns fans don’t know what it is like to see a successful franchise on the field but with the blockbuster deal for Odell Beckham Jr., there are suddenly high expectations going into 2019

My earliest memories of the Cleveland Browns begin in 1999. I was six years old at the time, and remember the days of then-Browns QB Tim Couch being coached by Butch Davis.

I saw Bottlegate happen, as bottles rained down on the officiating crew as they ran off the field after a botched call. In my time as a Browns fan, I’ve seen 10 different head coaches and 30 starting quarterbacks.

I’ve seen a lot as Browns fans for the past 20 years, but one thing I haven’t seen much of is winning. The Browns have only been to the playoffs once since I became a fan, back during the 2002 season, where they lost to the Pittsburgh Steelers during Wild Card weekend.

More from Dawg Pound Daily

The last time the team had a winning season was in 2007, when the team compiled a 10-6 record, but still missed the NFL playoffs.

With the acquisition of new Browns wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. this past week, the Browns have gone quickly from a middle of the road team to Super Bowl contender.

Currently, Vegas has the Browns at 15/1 odds to win the title in 2019. With an offense led by Baker Mayfield, and a backfield featuring Nick Chubb and eventually Kareem Hunt, there aren’t too many holes on the offensive side of the football for the team. The Browns offense is easily the most talented it’s ever been since their return to the league in 1999.

With the fifth-best odds to win the title in 2019, how should Browns fans react? There seems to be a split among the fan base, with some fans going all in with the team as it is, and others saying to pump the brakes until we see how the team executes on the field.

Another thing that fans have been dealing with this week is talks of bandwagon fans. Should the fan base be accepting these types of fans, only here for the ride while the team is good, or rejecting of that type of fandom?

The Browns still have their work cut out for them this offseason, with the NFL draft coming up next month. Browns GM John Dorsey still must make some tweaks to the roster, so fans can better decide their expectations for the team going forward into the new season.

However, it is quite an exciting time to be a Browns fan, and we can only hope that Dorsey continues to pile on talent to this football team, that has been dormant for so long. The Dawgs are now awake everyone, and they are ready to have their day.
