Daily Dawg Tags: Cleveland Browns have advantage in 2019 NFL Draft
By Dan Justik
The Daily Dawg Tags brings you all the Cleveland Browns news you need to know, including the organization having an advantage in the draft.
For the first time since 2008, the Cleveland Browns will not be making a selection in the first round of the NFL Draft. Cleveland moved their first round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft in the Odell Beckham Jr. trade.
The Browns reportedly felt comfortable trading the pick because they believe it is a weak draft class and there was not great value with the 17th overall selection.
Despite that notion, the league thrives on the draft. Teams always want a first round selection and will also try to make multiple selections in the first 32 picks.

However, in today’s featured article, a former NFL scout said the Browns will have an advantage making their first selection in the second round instead of having a first round pick.

"“But I think it allows you to — every year, usually you’re going to go a little bit deeper on the first round in terms of the level of study. This allows you to go to that depth in the second, third and on. I think that benefits you."
Without having a first round selection, the Browns will have more time to take a longer look and study the second round draft prospects more. This will help the Browns know if they are making the right selection in the second round and eliminate the potential risk of drafting someone they do not know everything about.
For the Cleveland Browns, their future is now
The Cleveland Browns have been setting themselves up to make big runs at the playoffs in the future. But after several big moves this off-season, Elliot Kennel believes that the Browns’ future is 2019.
"This, of course, is presuming the Browns think they need to upgrade the position from Derrick Kindred who is currently on the roster. Kindred will be entering his fourth year in the NFL, and has filled the box role of run-stopper quite well when asked–especially in 2017."
If the Browns feel they need to replace Derrick Kindred at safety, they still have options in free agency. There is also talent at the position in the draft. In fact, there are multiple safety prospects who could be plug-and-play starters after being drafted.
Browns fans can thank Jarvis Landry for Odell Beckham Jr.
He may not have been able to recruit him to Cleveland like if he was a free agent, but Steve Gessic Jr. believes Jarvis Landry played a huge role in bringing Beckham to Cleveland because of how Landry helped change the Browns’ culture.
