Post Free Agency: What the Cleveland Browns Still Need
By Shane Carter
The Cleveland Browns did well for themselves so far in the offseason as they filled many of the holes on their roster, but their work isn’t done. Here are the needs still remaining as the 2019 NFL Draft approaches.
This is the second year in a row that Cleveland Browns general manager Jon Dorsey has hit free agency hard in preparation for the teams upcoming season. Last year saw the additions of players like Damarious Randall and Jarvis Landry through trade and signing players like Tyrod Taylor and Chris Smith.
This year looked even better after starting with a controversial signing of Kareem Hunt, the team then signed Sheldon Richardson and traded for edge rusher Olivier Vernon and then made the trade that set Twitter on fire, which was to pick up Odell Beckham Jr.
Now that the dust has settled, this Browns team is arguably the most talented team in the AFC North, and the current overwhelming favorite to win the division. And why not?
The roster is stacked with players like Baker Mayfield, Nick Chubb, OBJ, Jarvis Landry, Kareem Hunt (after serving his suspension), David Njoku, Joel Bitonio, Myles Garrett, Denzel Ward, Duke Johnson, Antonio Callaway, Joe Schobert, Damarious Randall, Olivier Vernon, and Larry Ogunjobi. Whew!
After another solid free agency outing, the team still has some needs to address in this year’s draft. They no longer hold a first-round pick, but still, have enough draft capital to meet those needs.
Some are more pressing than others but each one can be answered come draft time.
