Post Free Agency: What the Cleveland Browns Still Need
By Shane Carter
Offensive Tackle
Now that the team has finally found its franchise quarterback in Baker Mayfield, a priority needs to be protecting him and keeping him upright.
Greg Robinson is playing on a one-year $9 million prove-it deal and it looks like Chris Hubbard and Desmond Harrison are going to battle for that right tackle spot. However, I’d look to improve the position.
Aside from strong safety, the offensive tackle spot is the biggest question mark on this team. Whether is right or left side, there are a few players who could be in contention for that 49th overall pick. David Edwards, Tytus Howard, and Yodny Cadjuste are all popular names and would be an immediate upgrade on the offensive line.
Defensive Line
Finally, what was the biggest need this offseason has been set, in terms of their starters? A front four consisting of Myles Garrett, Olivier Vernon, Sheldon Richardson, and Larry Ogunjobi is as dangerous as whenever Baker wakes up.
the second unit is a mystery, however. Chris Smith and Emmanuel Ogbah are capable players but the reports of the Browns shipping Ogbah will create a hole at the left end spot. Trevon Coley is a good depth piece but he’s the only backup defensive tackle I could definitively say will have a roster spot this season.
This would be the year to grab defensive line players. It’s the hands-down deepest position in the draft. Players like Maxx Crosby or an Austin Bryant on the edge I am players like Daylon Mack, Dontavius Russell and Michael Dogbe at the tackle spot would give this team as much talent and depth than its seen maybe ever.
