Round 6, Pick 189: Clayton Thorson, QB, Northwestern

For years Cleveland Browns fans waited to see which quarterback their team was going to draft as they hoped to finally find their franchise guy. Then, it finally happened in 2018 as Baker Mayfield was their choice at No. 1 overall.

Mayfield then went out and set the NFL record for passing touchdowns by a rookie and the team finally is set at the position. However, they could use some depth and it looks like they have kicked the tires on a couple of young options.

In this mock, they end up taking Clayton Thorson of Northwestern. He broke out in 2016 but seemed to take a step back after that. Cleveland brings him in hoping to get a decent backup that can find his form from a couple of seasons ago.

Round 7, Pick 221: Shareef Miller, EDGE, Penn State

With their final pick in this 2019 NFL Mock Draft, the Browns add some help on the edge in the form of Shareef Miller out of Penn State. Miller had 7.5 sacks as a senior but needs to work on his ability to get off the snap if he wants to put up similar numbers in the pros.

Cleveland has a solid trio of defensive ends with Myles Garrett, Olivier Vernon, and Emmanuel Ogbah. On top of that, there’s Chris Smith and 2018 third round pick Chad Thomas. Making the roster won’t be easy for Miller, but they will give the pass rusher a shot to unseat someone on the roster.
