Five AAF players the Cleveland Browns should consider signing
By Dan Justik
Garrett Gilbert, Quarterback
The Cleveland Browns are no longer in need of finding their franchise quarterback now that they have Baker Mayfield. Mayfield has provided a spark to the Browns offense and looks like the real deal after his rookie season.

But the Browns should not be done searching for a quarterback. They may have their starter, but they need to find a reliable backup who can manage games if something were to happen to Mayfield.
Drew Stanton is currently the only other quarterback on the Browns roster and he did not play a snap during the 2018 season. He will also turn 35 by the time the 2019 season starts and is on the downside of his career, so the Browns should be looking for a younger quarterback to replace Stanton.
Garrett Gilbert was the best quarterback in the AAF and was arguably the best offensive player in the entire league. In eight games, Gilbert completed 60.6 percent of his passes for 2,152 yards, 13 touchdowns, and three interceptions. He finished with an NFL passer rating of 99.1.
The 27-year-old was drafted in 2014 and bounced around for most of his career. He has only played one game in the NFL, which was last season for the Carolina Panthers. He completed two of his three pass attempts for 40 yards.
Gilbert has solid mobility and was able to take what defenses gave him, allowing him to move the ball down the field. For a young quarterback who can manage games, the Browns should be willing to give Gilbert a shot as Mayfield’s backup.
