Cleveland Browns: 3 Free agents still available to sign

Stephen Gostkowski, K
Last season, the Cleveland Browns left two wins on the table to start the year. Missed kicks cost them a win against the Pittsburgh Steelers as well as the New Orleans Saints. In the end, they were 0-1-1 instead of 2-0. While there needs to be some blame placed on the coaching staff — and the fact that Tyrod Taylor was too cautious at quarterback ‚— the fact is missed kicks doomed them.
Cleveland responded by releasing Zane Gonzalez and they went with undrafted rookie Greg Joseph. He was 17-of-20 on the season but his extra points were an issue as Joseph connected on 25-of-29 in that department.
As of now, Joseph is slated to be the starter in 2019 and they really could do much worse. His season as a whole really wasn’t bad for a rookie and he should be able to improve going forward. However, the fact that they look like contenders in the AFC North may give them pause when it comes to handing Joseph the job. Sure, they’re likely to bring in some competition, but what’s to stop them from going for a proven veteran such as Stephen Gostkowski?
The former New England Patriots kicker has connected on 87.4 percent of his career attempts and is 642-of-649 in his career on extra points. He’s added another 39 career playoff makes on 44 tries and is known for his ability to deliver under pressure.
There’s a chance he could still return to the Pats, but he could just as easily leave — especially for the right contract.
