With a much improved secondary and a defensive line that could be the best in the league, the Cleveland Browns are just pieces away from a dominant defense. Adding LSU’s Greedy Williams could help complete the unit.

The Cleveland Browns have injected so much talent this offseason, and yet, they still might not be done. The Browns pick at No. 49 in the second round in this year’s draft, and there have been multiple reports of a possible move back into the first round.

Should general manager John Dorsey actually make the move back into the first, they should be gunning for LSU cornerback Greedy Williams.

Strengths

In a relatively average cornerback class, Williams seems to be the top choice among many analysts. Georgia’s Deandre Baker and Washington product Byron Murphy are both solid options, but Williams stands above the class, and looks to be a perfect fit for the Browns.

At 6-foot-2 and 183 pounds, Williams is a great foil to the smaller Denzel Ward. Ward’s terrific rookie season showed great promise, and a second lock-down corner across from him could work wonders for defensive coordinator Steve Wilks and Cleveland’s defense as a whole.

For as good as Ward is on man-on-man situations, Williams’ press coverage prowess is what he takes pride in. Jamming receivers at the line with Ward gives the Browns’ tremendous front line more time to get to opposing quarterbacks.

Weaknesses

With Williams’ height, 183 pounds is a much smaller frame than is ideal for the NFL. For as tall and athletic as he is, the lack of strength Williams possesses can show on tape against bigger, stronger receivers. Despite this, Williams is often a smart enough and tall enough cornerback to cover up some of his deficiencies in bulk.

Williams can be a bit inconsistent in the run game at times, which could be tied in once again to durability and strength concerns. If he can stay feisty and frustrating at the next level, this could be remedied by coaching and an NFL weight plan.

Summary

Greedy Williams could be the perfect prospect to line up across from Denzel Ward with the skill-set he possesses. But, the Browns are going to need to pay a price to grab him by moving back into the first round. John Dorsey has to weigh his options here: Trade up for a prospect that could be ideal, or wait for another cornerback to drop to the No. 49 slot?
