Cleveland Browns: Joint 7-round mock draft, the week of the main event

Round 2, Pick 49: Amani Oruwariye, CB, Penn State
Most expect the Browns to go after Justin Layne in the draft, but there’s another prospect who should be ranked slightly ahead of him. Amani Oruwariye has just as much size and physicality and is more of a ball hawk. Speed was his one concern and he showed enough at the Combine for that not to be a concern.
Round 3, Pick 80: Amani Hooker, S, Iowa
Morgan Burnett is good enough to start in 2019 but he’s not a long-term answer. Because of that, the Browns add Amani Hooker out of Iowa here. He doesn’t have the same pedigree as players such as Taylor Rapp or Chauncey Gardner-Johnson, but the upside is there.

Round 4, Pick 119: Chuma Edoga, OT, USC
Cleveland waits until the fourth round to draft a tackle, mainly because they have some faith in Greg Robinson and Desmond Harrison. If those two let them down, Chuma Edoga could be the answer. He’s a better run blocker than pass protector but can develop in that regard.
Round 5, Pick 144: Terry Beckner, DT, Missouri
The defensive tackle position has two legitimate starters in Larry Ogunjobi and Sheldon Richardson, but they need depth at the position. With that in mind, they add Terry Beckner, Jr. who has 13.5 career sacks — seven of which came in 2017.
Round 5, Pick 155: Lamont Gaillard, C, Georgia
Without a true backup center, the Browns need to add someone and Lamont Gaillard is the perfect fit. He doesn’t get the love he deserves but Cleveland fans will be very fond of him.
Round 5, Pick 170: Jalen Jelks, EDGE, Oregon
Like defensive tackle, the edge spot is solid but depth is a concern. Chad Thomas and Chris Smith are in the mix but Jalen Jelks could push for snaps.
Round 6, Pick 189: Matt Gay, K, Utah
Greg Joseph did a good job after replacing Zane Gonzalez, but the Browns don’t want a repeat of Week 1 and 2 from last season. Competition is always a good thing.
Round 7, Pick 221: Ulysees Gilbert, LB, Akron
346 tackles, 8.5 sacks, and three picks in the past three seasons is impressive no matter what division you play in. The Browns could have another hidden gem at linebacker in Akron’s Ulysees Gilbert.
