Cleveland Browns select Greedy Williams at No. 46 after trading up
By Joel W. Cade
The Cleveland Browns waited until day two, but they finally made a pick. Addressing a position of need the Browns selected cornerback Greedy Williams.
Cleveland Browns fans had to wait until well into day 2 before watching the Browns select. The Browns traded up 3 spots with the Indianapolis Colts. The Browns sent pick 49 and pick 144 to move up. But the move was well worth it.
Jim Brown walked out sporting his cane, thanked the crowd and wasted no time in announcing the section. After a brief faux paux in which he stated the year was 2013, Brown announced that the Browns had taken LSU’s Greedy Williams.
Andraez “Greedy” Williams was a highly ranked cornerback by many in the scouting community. Williams was ranked as the second overall corner by Dane Brugler of The Athletic. Pro Football Focus (Subscription Required) had him ranked in the top two cornerbacks of the draft. Daniel Jeremiah had Williams ranked as the 32 overall prospect in the draft.
In Williams, the Browns get an eerily similar player to last year’s fourth overall selection Denzel Ward. Both are lightning fast. Greedy ran a 4.37 40 yard dash at the combine. Both play man to man coverage extremely well. Williams was rated the best man to man coverage cornerback in the draft by Pro Football Focus.
On the other side, the book on Williams is that he is soft against the run. But once he plays the run with the same attitude he plays the pass, that will change.
An interesting plot twist is that the Browns have drafted an LSU Tiger that brings the same intensity and attitude to the team as former Tigers Jarvis Landry and Odell Beckham Jr.
The Browns are definitely building a team that will play with attitude, hit hard and show no mercy. Greedy Williams fits that role perfectly.
Welcome to the Dawg Pound Greedy Williams. You are going to fit in perfectly!
