Cornerback (5):

Denzel Ward, Greedy Williams, Terrance Mitchell, T.J. Carrie, Donnie Lewis, Jr.

Last season, there was a temptation to grab Bradley Chubb with the No. 4 overall pick. Pairing him with Myles Garrett seemed like a great idea as it would have made life unbearable for opposing quarterbacks. That ended up not happening though as Dorsey elected to go with Denzel Ward. The Ohio State cornerback filled a greater need, which ended up being the tiebreaker.

While there’s no doubt Chubb would have been a great pick, Ward still held his own. He ended up lining up against some of the best wideouts in the game and held his own. He was even named to the Pro Bowl for his work.

Starting opposite him in 2019 will be Greedy Williams, the LSU product who slipped into the second round. Cleveland moved up a few spots to secure his services at No. 46, which was a steal for Williams. He and Ward in the same secondary will make things hard for opposing wideouts.

It also moves Terrance Mitchell to the third corner spot, which is a better role for him. Mitchell was an underrated signing and played well in 2018 but could be even better coming in as the nickel back. He beats out T.J. Carrie for that job, although Carrie as the fourth cornerbacks just highlights the talent they suddenly have in this group.

The fifth spot goes to seventh-round pick Donnie Lewis, Jr. from Tulane. He was chosen with the selection the Browns got for quarterback Cody Kessler and had a nose for the ball — evidenced by his 17 pass defenses in 2018.
