The Cleveland Browns have more stars than ever heading into the 2019 NFL season. However, there’s room for more and these are the top three candidates to break out

Last year, the Cleveland Browns had their share of breakout stars. Among them was rookie quarterback Baker Mayfield who set a team record for passing yards with 3,725 on the season. In addition to that, Mayfield threw 27 touchdowns, which was an NFL record — surpassing the mark set by Peyton Manning and Russell Wilson.

Mayfield was named the NFL Rookie of the Week seven times in 2018 and yet somehow wasn’t the NFL Rookie of the Year. After the season ended, he found himself the center of attention as he was showing up on late night talk shows, YouTube comedy specials with Kevin Hart, and recently in the middle of the action at the Kentucky Derby.

While his star is shining brighter than everyone’s in Cleveland, he had some other players rise to the occasion last season as well. Fellow rookie Nick Chubb is another example. He took over for Carlos Hyde as the feature running back and set the franchise record for the longest rushing yard when he went for a 92-yard touchdown in Week 10 against the Atlanta Falcons.

Chubb finished with 996 yards and eight touchdowns on the season and is set to be the feature back this year, although he will have some competition in Kareem Hunt after he returns from an eight-week suspension.

The rookie trifecta was completed by Denzel Ward, who made the Pro Bowl in his first season after playing well against some of the best wideouts in the game.

Other than rookies, the Browns had some other stars show up in 2018, including wide receiver Jarvis Landry who had 81 receptions for 976 yards. Tight end David Njoku was also a star, pulling in 639 yards and four touchdowns.

Still, the biggest ‘breakout star’ had to be Myles Garrett. The second-year defensive end racked up 13.5 sacks as he became one of the best edge rushers in the game.

Looking ahead to 2019, there could be even more members of the Browns ready to break out and become household names. Here are the four most likely players that can do just that.
