3 Prospects the Cleveland Browns could draft in 2020
By Joseph Cantz
David Dowell, Safety, Michigan State
Safety Damarious Randall is Cleveland Browns fan favorite. However, after the 2019 season, he is slated to be an Unrestricted Free Agent.
While many would love to see him sign an extension, there is a distinct possibility that the Browns will have to find his replacement. If they decide to look for one early, a name to watch is David Dowell. A senior safety out of Michigan State, he has the prototypical body type to play the free safety position.
He was an integral part of Michigan State’s defensive turnaround in recent years after going 3-9 in 2016. Dowell has played well every year he’s suited up for the Spartans, but his play took a slight dip in 2018. He increased his total tackles, but his pass breakups and interceptions dropped. While it isn’t the end of the world, these numbers could be something to keep an eye on as the college football season progresses.
I fully expect his production to keep steady in 2019, but only time will tell. Dowell is expected to be a leader in the Spartans’ defensive backfield, and if he can match or improve his production, he will be looked at early in the 2020 draft.
