Free agent defensive tackle Gerald McCoy to visit Cleveland Browns on Friday
Since being released by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Gerald McCoy has been linked to the Cleveland Browns by multiple sources. On Thursday, it was confirmed he would be visiting Cleveland during the weekend.
As of right now, the Cleveland Browns boast one of the NFL’s most talented front sevens, especially on the defensive line. A group highlighted by Myles Garrett, Olivier Vernon, and Larry Ogunjobi seems like the easiest answer for the Browns’ most talented position group.
The Dawg Pound’s defensive line could be getting even better soon, as free agent Gerald McCoy will make his visit to Berea on Friday.
Browns wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. has already been doing his part, openly recruiting McCoy over social media throughout the past week. McCoy has been linked to being a possible Browns signing ever since he was released by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this offseason.
Reports both local and national have shown Cleveland’s interest in the 31-year old Oklahoma product, as the Browns continue to attempt to race out to contendership.
Coming into the back nine of his professional career, McCoy has shown himself to be a force on the defensive line throughout his career. McCoy showing his age in seasons could lead him to the Browns naturally, as a team that does not need another star on the front seven.
A simple locker room presence and depth piece to highlight Larry Ogunjobi and Sheldon Richardson would suffice for Cleveland, and they have the salary cap to sign McCoy to a short-term deal.
McCoy is the most sought after free agent in the NFL right now, and he has noted that he wants to play for a contender. If he can lead the Browns deep into the playoffs, with the talented core they already have, then his services are well worth the money.
