The Starter: David Njoku

Currently, David Njoku has the starting position locked down for the Browns. He was one of three first-round picks in 2017 and while he still has room to grow, he’s been a good player for the first two seasons of his young career.

As a rookie, Njoku had 386 yards receiving and four touchdowns off 32 grabs. His production increased in year two as he had 56 catches for 639 yards and four more touchdowns. However, he was challenged by general manager John Dorsey to become a more complete player this offseason.

"“The one thing about David is he is a very young man. I love his passion. I love his competitiveness. He is willing to go work day in and day out to master his craft. We have high expectations for David moving forward and he rightfully has expectations for himself,” Dorsey said according to Josh Edwards if 247 Sports. “I know one thing that I’d like for him to see – improve your run blocking. David has got all the elements to be a really nice pass-catching tight end who can run after the catch. So I challenge him here today, you know what, improve your run blocking.”"

While no one is competing with him for his starting spot on the team, this was quite the nudge by Dorsey. Clearly, he thinks highly of Njoku but wants him to become a better all-around player in order to get his name mentioned among some of the best in the game. That challenge in itself makes this a big season for the soon to be 23-year old.
