With mandatory minicamps set to begin, we look at some of the most important position battles to watch as the Cleveland Browns get to work ahead of the 2019 season

Be honest with me. If you’re a Cleveland Browns fan, two years ago you were miserable. The team was 0-16 and had somehow found a new low, not seen before.

Amazing how one season can turn everything around. The team has a new head coach, a franchise quarterback and stars everywhere on both sides of the ball. Now, they’ve gone from pretenders to contenders.

Usually with a team this stacked, there are no spots open, at least for starters. Not many, no, but still some spots are up for grabs. Not only that, but the answer to who starts will likely tell us who will be on this team this year and next year too.

The talk of the team might be Baker Mayfield or Odell Beckham, Jr., or John Dorsey but don’t let the talk of those names distract from all the new players and positions that need filling. This team’s far from complete but a lot of solid moves have given the team more depth than it has ever had, and a new hope around its fan base.

The battle for roster spots is important but these are the battles for important starting positions. Some are more immediate than others but no team has lost in more different ways than the Browns, so every position matters all the more.

It’s still early, and more will be revealed once training camp and preseason come, but for now we know who’s actually up for the starting jobs.
