The new Robin: Olivier Vernon

Before the Browns decided to trade Emmanuel Ogbah, they decided to get themselves a solid second starter opposite Myles Garrett. That led to them striking their first of two deals with the New York Giants. While the Odell Beckham, Jr. trade got all the love, the move to land Olivier Vernon will also have a huge impact on the season.

Vernon was added to the Giants in 2016 during a free agency period in which they were all in. Along with Janoris Jenkins and Damon Harrison, the Giants defense was remade during that spending spree. And for a year, they were stout. However, they fell off quickly and now Jenkins is the only big-name signing left from that offseason.

As for Vernon, he never truly lived up to the hype that came with his contract. He was still good though and even made the Pro Bowl in 2018 for the first time. As good as that campaign was, he can be even better in 2019.

Lining up opposite Garrett gives the Browns two stellar edge rushers — and they plan on moving them around which will keep opponents guessing as well. Not only will that help, but Vernon should be even more effective now, as he plays Robin to Garrett’s Batman. Look for opposing quarterbacks to have even less time to get the back out of their hands this season with this duo working together.
