The Cleveland Browns made a lot of changes this offseason, which seems to have impressed the makers of Madden 20 as they gave the team an 87 overall rating
The Cleveland Browns are gaining a lot of fans as of late, and we can include the makers of the popular game, Madden NFL, among those fans. According to ShackNews.com, the Browns have received an overall rating of 87 for this year’s edition of the EA Sports game.
This is quite the jump from the 74 rating the team had entering last year’s edition of the game (2019 rating courtesy of Ben Axelrod of WKYC). It’s also their best score in the game since way back in 2007 according to Axelrod.
That season was also their last winning campaign, and the ensuing video game roster featured players such as Derek Anderson, Jamal Lewis, Braylon Edwards, Willie McGinest, and Joe Thomas. The rating also puts them among some of the teams who have won titles recently in the NFL.

"“The Browns’ 87 team rating for this year’s game marks their highest since the 88 they received in the Madden ’09 game, which was released following Cleveland’s last winning season in 2007.For comparison’s sake, the highest rated team in last year’s Madden 19 game was the Philadelphia Eagles, who laid claim to a 90, with the New England Patriots ranking second at 84.” — Ben Axelrod, WKYC.com"
This year, the Browns have added a lot of talent to both sides of the ball. Their biggest addition was wide receiver Odell Beckham, Jr. but they also brought in running back Kareem Hunt as well as defensive end Olivier Vernon and defensive tackle Sheldon Richardson.
Cleveland also saw a huge jump in performance from Baker Mayfield, who set the NFL record for touchdown passes by a rookie in 2018. Mayfield is expected to continue to shine, considering the offensive coordinator, Freddie Kitchens, he found his success with is now the head coach.
This is the most balanced team the Browns have had in years and it’s great to see the recognition for John Dorsey‘s work already getting some respect.
