Most NFL fans know every move Odell Beckham Jr. makes, which is why the Cleveland Browns wide receiver believes he is the most scrutinized NFL player.

Ever since the Cleveland Browns acquired wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. in March, there has been plenty of buzz surrounding the Browns and how the 26-year-old will mesh with his new team.

Because of his addition, there are plenty of expectations surrounding the Browns in 2019. And because of these expectations, the Browns have been a focus of the national media during the offseason.

The focus on the Browns caused a lot of drama for Cleveland during their offseason program, mainly because of Beckham’s lack of attendance at the team’s facility.

Whenever the Browns were being talked about, a topic that was almost always discussed was how Beckham was training on his own instead of being with the team. Browns head coach Freddie Kitchens would regularly be asked about why Beckham was not showing up and what Beckham was missing, even though Kitchens said he knew Beckham’s plan.

However, Beckham is not the only veteran player who missed his team’s voluntary portions of the offseason program. But based on the coverage surrounding his absence, it seemed like he was. That is a part of the reason why Beckham believes he is the most scrutinized player in the NFL – via Albert Breer of the MMQB.

"“I don’t think anybody knows what it’s like to be me, what I go through on a daily basis. Like, every single thing I have to deal with, that’s something that nobody else I feel like has to deal with. I feel like I’m in a way different position than anybody else in the NFL. I feel like I deal with more. I take more. There’s things I’ve done in the past. But as a man I’ve tried to grow a lot and tried to put a lot of stuff behind me, and it’s like it just keeps getting brought up.’”"

Beckham is a player who is not afraid to show how he feels on the field and what he does off the field. And it is because of this that he has drawn a lot of attention towards himself and has caused people to dislike Beckham over the past couple of seasons.

Whether it be Beckham showing his frustrations on the sideline and kicking and punching inanimate objects or fighting with Josh Norman during a game in 2015, Beckham’s on-field actions have drawn a lot of criticism.

Last season, Beckham also called out the Giants organization during an ESPN interview because he did not think he was able to showcase his abilities as a Giant. His comments caused Giants owner John Mara to respond and call out Beckham, saying the wide receiver “needs to do a little more playing and a little less talking.”

Because Beckham is not afraid to show his personality, which many professional athletes choose not to do, it opens him up to hear criticism. With his rapid rise to fame as a young player and becoming a superstar in the NFL while playing in one of the biggest markets in the United States, more eyes were put on Beckham.

He may not like being the most scrutinized player in the NFL, but it is how he has handled his career that drew the scrutiny from the national media and fans of the NFL. Now that he is a Cleveland Brown, he may be playing in a smaller market but he will still draw plenty of criticism from all over the country.
