Guard: Eric Kush

Once the Browns traded away Kevin Zeitler, who went to the New York Giants in exchange for Olivier Vernon, it seemed as though the front office was sold on Austin Corbett. The former offensive tackle at Nevada has been working on transitioning to guard, but it wasn’t a quick process.

Corbett, the No. 33 overall pick spent a lot of time on the field during the preseason last year and Cleveland even tried him at left guard with Joel Bitonio trying his hand at tackle. That didn’t work and Bitonio slid back inside and Corbett spent his rookie year taking things in with the hope that he could be a starter in the near future.

Now as we get closer to training camp, we realize that Corbett may not be as ready as it seemed. He’s been working behind Kyle Kalis at right guard, but there could be another name capable of starting as well.

The Browns made an under the radar move this offseason when the landed Eric Kush who started 11 games over the past two seasons for the Chicago Bears. A former sixth-round pick by John Dorsey while with the Kansas City Chiefs, Kush has experience at both guard and center during his career in the NFL.

Should he not become the starting right guard, he would be the primary reserve in the middle — capable of playing all three positions. Still, given that he’s the most experienced member of the team fighting for Zeitler’s old position, it wouldn’t be shocking to see him lining up with the first team soon.
