Defensive Player of the Year: Myles Garrett

I really don’t think anybody else on this defense will come close to his production this year. If Denzel Ward and Joe Schobert stay healthy then maybe, but my money is on the dinosaur man Myles Garrett. All he does is improve and all this team has done since drafting him is get better and find more talent to put around him.

Garrett will do incredible things this year and I predict he will lead the AFC North in sacks and compete to lead the AFC in sacks this year. Expect this to be a massive year for him and this defense. Most of the hype has been on the offense, but this defense improved too.

More from Dawg Pound Daily

The defense line is one of the strongest in the league and that’s not just on paper, that’s proven numbers from the starting four. I expect the defense to run a lot of two linebacker sets to increase the coverage during passing downs and to allow time for Garret to maul the QB. He will do amazing things this year.

Honorable Mentions No. 1: Joe Schobert

I love what he brings to this team and I wish he would get a new contract already so the Browns could have their leader of the future in place for forever. Joe Schobert is the second-best starting linebacker when it comes down to coverage in the league, only slightly behind Bobby Wagner of the Seahawks. I’ll take those numbers.

He has proven these last two years that he can put up big numbers and lead this team. Sure, Jamie Collins led the team in tackles last year, but by one tackle and because Schobert was hurt. Schobert was tied for the league’s most tackles in 2017 and was pacing for the same in 2018, don’t sleep on him in the middle of the field.

Honorable Mentions No. 2: Denzel Ward

Learn how to tackle and his career will be a hall of fame one. Denzel Ward and Greedy Williams on the corners is insane to think about and Greedy is already getting first team snaps. Ward, a rookie pro bowler last year, now being paired up with the best cover corner in college football last year, the sky is the limit and Ward will only grow as a pro more this year and hopefully learn to keep his head up and wrap the legs.
