Josh McCown Retires: Here were his 3 best Cleveland Browns games
By Randy Gurzi
No. 3: Week 12, 2016 vs. New York Giants
This ended up being the final game Josh McCown started for the Browns as head coach Hue Jackson decided to go with Robert Griffin III for the final stretch after he returned to health. Jackson was adamant that he needed to find out if Cody Kessler was a good enough quarterback or if RG3 could be the man, so McCown spent much of this season on the bench despite being the best player.
Once Griffin was back, McCown spent the final four games inactive before being released in 2017 — again, despite being the best option. As for his last game, McCown gave it all he had as the team was fighting desperately to get at least one win on the dreadful season.
At home against the New York Giants, he was asked to throw the ball often as they were playing from behind. He ended up completing 25-of-43 passes for 322 yards with a touchdown and no interceptions. He did fumble twice but continued to fight hard in the game despite the struggles and deficit.
Cleveland ended up winning one game after McCown was benched, as RG3 led them to a narrow win in Week 16 against the San Diego Chargers. McCown headed to the Jets after Jackson released them and went 5-8 as their starter. Jackson and his new quarterback, DeShone Kizer, were 0-16.
