One player who hasn’t endeared himself to fans just yet is Chad Thomas. The former Miami Hurricane was selected in the third round of the 2018 NFL Draft, and the reaction right away was that he may have been a reach.

Thomas displayed some solid pass rushing skills for Miami but never seemed to put it all together. He had 10 career sacks with 4.5 being his best output — a feat he accomplished in both 2016 and 2017.

In addition to him not living up to his potential, there were concerns about whether or not playing football was his top priority. Thomas also works in the music industry and has a strong passion for that. This isn’t to say he can’t do both, but the question was raised during the draft process as to where his focus is.

So far, Thomas hasn’t produced anything in the NFL. He played in just four games as a rookie and recorded no sacks. He was held out of action in Week 1 as well as Week 4-7. He then came back for one more game before again suffering an injury and was placed on the IR with a hernia injury.

With Emmanuel Ogbah now in Kansas City, the Browns hope Thomas can be an impactful player off the bench for them. They can surely use him as a depth piece and he’ll be given every opportunity to earn some snaps in his second year. The question will be whether or not he capitalizes on those chances.
