By Dan Justik
The Daily Dawg Tags brings you all the Cleveland Browns news you need to know, including a Browns defender potentially setup for big 2019 season.
The Cleveland Browns saw several of their key players show improvement in 2018, helping them finish with their best record since 2014.
With greater expectations for the 2019 season, they are going to need to see more improvement across their entire roster, but mostly on the defensive side of the ball.
The defense showed flashes of potential last season, but they still ended up as one of the worst statistical units in the league. But if the players can continue to develop, it should help the unit overall.

Today’s featured article looks at a Browns defensive starter who could be setup for a big 2019 season and the best season of his career.
Cleveland Browns News
"With the lack of an explosive strong safety on the roster without Peppers, Randall can fill that role and allow Eric Murray, Morgan Burnett, or Jermaine Whitehead to play in deep safety looks. Randall’s versatility opens the door for Wilks to use his deep safeties with a variety of looks and put the best player in the most advantageous position."
After moving back to safety in 2018, Damarious Randall played the best season of his career. But with more movement along the defense, Randall will have more opportunities to make plays. As he gets more responsibility in the defense, Randall should once again be one Cleveland’s best defensive play-makers.
5 former Browns who would thrive on 2019 roster
Because the Cleveland Browns had so many bad seasons over the past couple of decades, a lot of talented players were not given the opportunity to taste success. But Randy Gurzi looks at five former Browns who would fit perfectly on Cleveland’s 2019 roster.
"The distribution of carries and targets remains to be seen, but we can glean a little bit of info on that front by watching how often the trio cycles in and out at running back. And we still haven’t even mentioned one of the offseason’s brightest stars in Dontrell Hilliard, who figures to fill a role similar to that of Johnson, while also getting looks as a returner."
If the Browns decide to move Duke Johnson during training camp, it will make it easier to spread reps among Nick Chubb, Kareem Hunt, and Dontrell Hilliard. But with all four still on the roster, it will be tough to give the backs after Chubb the amount of work they should be getting during training camp to properly prepare for the season.
Will Mack Wilson be the most surprising Browns rookie at training camp?
Most of the Browns rookie class may not be in line for significant playing time in 2019 unless they can emerge in training camp. One of the players who may be able to do so is fifth-round selection Mack Wilson, who could be prepared to take snaps away from veteran linebackers.
