3. Britton Colquitt, Punter

It may not be the most exciting battle, but there’s a shot that there could be a fight for the punting job in Cleveland. Undrafted rookie Jamie Gillan has turned some heads in camp with his incredibly strong leg and could have an outside shot at upsetting veteran Britton Colquitt.

Already owning the coolest nickname for a punter, “The Scottish Hammer” entered the league with stories already being told about his feats. DPD’s own Martin McConnell spoke on him during OTAs and told a story about the 21-year old destroying every football he brought to the draft.

"“As the story goes, Gillan brought four footballs to train for the NFL Draft during his pre-draft process. Not only did he grab more eyes than wide receivers, quarterbacks, and edge rushers, but his leg was powerful enough to pop all of them open. Other than Michael Dickson’s famous drop kick punt, that may be the most impressive feat a punter can have.” — McConnell, DPD"

Even if Gillan doesn’t outright beat Colquitt, he could save the team an awful lot of money. The veteran enters this season with a contract owing him $2.7 million, all of which can be wiped out should they cut him (according to OverTheCap.com). As for “The Scottish Hammer,” his cap hit is less than $500,000 during his rookie campaign.
