Safety (5): Damarious Randall, Jermaine Whitehead, Morgan Burnett, Sheldrick Redwine, Eric Murray

Cleveland has had some preliminary talks with free safety Damarious Randall about a contract extension. Added in a trade with the Green Bay Packers, who took quarterback DeShone Kizer in return, Randall has helped solidify the back end of the secondary. Entering the final year of his rookie deal, look for him to once again be the leader of the defensive backs as he does all he can to earn that new deal.

Starting next to him in this prediction is Jermaine Whitehead. They still keep Morgan Burnett, but the veteran loses out to Whitehead who has turned a lot of heads during offseason workouts. He’s already on his fourth NFL team, but Whitehead has the coaching staff on his side and has been called a leader by defensive coordinator Steve Wilks.

Burnett offers a savvy veteran to back up Whitehead while also playing in sub-packages. He has a great resume but struggled in 2018 with the Pittsburgh Steelers. They did play him out of position which will be rectified in Cleveland.

Also making the team is rookie Sheldrick Redwine. Like Whitehead, the coaching staff loves what he brings to the table. There are high hopes for him down the road as a potential starter. Eric Murray rounds out the safeties but will primarily be a special teams player.

Murray was acquired from the Kansas City Chiefs in exchange for Emmanuel Ogbah in large part due to his ability as a gunner on special teams. The Browns really want to shore up this area of concern and he’s going to be a big part of that.
