The Daily Dawg Tags brings you all the Cleveland Browns news you need to know, including the importance of the Browns veteran linebackers.

The heart of the Cleveland Browns defense is their two veteran linebackers, Joe Schobert and Christian Kirksey. Both Schobert and Kirksey are vital members of the defense because of their leadership qualities.

The two also have plenty of experience playing next to each other, as they played every defensive snap during the win-less 2017 season.

With the Browns having a new defensive coordinator for the 2019 season, their leadership is going to be needed as they adjust to the new defense, as well as helping put the rest of the defense in the right positions every play.

Why Christian Kirksey and Joe Schobert stand in the middle of everything for the Browns: Doug Lesmerises 3rd & Short – Cleveland.com

"“Linebacker is the communication hub of the defense,” Schobert said when we talked about this idea during minicamp. “We’re the big pivot point of the defense, so you’ve got to be confident out there with who you’re playing with.“There’s little things. You can count on Kirko. Like today in practice, you get a guard pulling, I hear Kirko yelling, ‘Pull, pull, pull,’ and if I don’t see it, I can trust him."

The linebacker play last season was a big reason why the entire unit struggled. Although Schobert has proven to be one of the best coverage linebackers in the league, perhaps having less to think about will help him play more freely and reduce the amount of missed tackles. And having a linebacker next to him who is he more comfortable with should also help make things easier in 2019.

The Cleveland Browns have been known to overspend on free agents because of the difficulty of drawing top talent to the shores of Lake Erie, so Randy Gurzi looks at Cleveland’s worst free agent signings since the team returned to Cleveland in 1999.

James Holzhauer: Browns are the worst team to bet on to win the Super Bowl – Michael David Smith, Pro Football Talk

"Holzhauer told Peter King for Football Morning in America that the Browns, whose odds have been listed in the 15-1 to 20-1 range, would be the worst team to bet on."

The Cleveland Browns have become the buzziest team in the NFL after their flurry of offseason moves. They have become favorites in several bets for the 2019 season, including being a top pick for the Super Bowl. But because they have not shown their talent on the field yet, they may not be the best team to bet on with their odds.

The Cleveland Browns saga with running back Duke Johnson is likely to carry into training camp, but Johnson’s decision to hire Drew Rosenhaus as his agent was viewed favorably by the Browns because of John Dorsey’s history with the super-agent.
