3. Who plays at right guard?

As mentioned earlier, Cleveland gave up right guard Kevin Zeitler in exchange for Olivier Vernon. That trade itself was fair for both teams as they each added to a position of need by picking up a quality starter. However, each franchise left themselves a little bare in the cupboard at their former player’s position.

For the Browns, they had high hopes for one of their 2018 draft picks Austin Corbett and likely believed he could step in and perform the job for them. Unfortunately, he hasn’t separated himself from the pack just yet.

Through the first week-plus of training camp, Corbett has been splitting time with Kyle Kalis and Eric Kush. All three are vying for the starting job which causes some concern about the position. For the past couple of seasons, the interior of the line has been a huge strength for Cleveland but now they may be tested in this department.

The coaching staff has hinted at knowing who is ahead in this battle, but that would be a more comforting statement if it were followed by one player consistently playing with the first team.

In reality, the coaches probably know who they want to win the job, which seems as though that would be Corbett, but they’re waiting to see how things go in the preseason. Those games will be huge as they try and answer the question about who plays right guard in 2019.
