5 Cleveland Browns making an impression in training camp
By Randy Gurzi
The Cleveland Browns finished their eighth day of training camp on Friday, Aug. 2 and will take a couple of days off, which feels like a good time to look back at the practices and identify 5 players making an impression
Eight practices are in the books for the Cleveland Browns as is the annual brown and orange scrimmage — which had a great turnout. After taking a day off Sunday, they begin a new workweek which culminates in their first preseason game against the Washington Redskins on Thursday, Aug. 8.
That game will be a great opportunity for some of the new players to really make their mark with the team as they either fight for a starting job or just to make the roster. As important as that game will be — as will the three exhibition contests that follow — there have already been plenty of players turning heads for Cleveland in training camp.
As they prepare for their first game week of the 2019 preseason, we pause to look at five players who are already making quite an impression.
5. Greedy Williams, Cornerback
Taken 46th overall in the 2019 NFL Draft, Greedy Williams has quickly made an impression on the Browns coaches. The LSU product had first-round talent but fell to the second night due to his issues in the tackling game as well as a reported low score on the Wonderlic test.
While there’s no proof that test correlates to bad cornerback play, Williams is already working to dispel the concerns about his tackling. Recently, he went toe-to-toe with Nick Chubb and was willing to lower his shoulder and deliver the hit that took the bruising back down.
Williams has already seen snaps with the first-team defense and has a shot at being the starter opposite second-year pro Denzel Ward. Cleveland entered the draft thin at corner, but could now have one of the best one-two punch in the AFC North.
