The Cleveland Browns had a fantastic preseason opener against the Washington Redskins, but some players may have put themselves on the bubble still

It really was a fantastic start on Thursday night for the Cleveland Browns. The starters got to test out their two-minute offense as head coach Freddie Kitchens approached their one and only drive treating it as such. They even faced early adversity as a penalty on special teams backed them up deep in their own territory.

They remained unbothered by this and quarterback Baker Mayfield led them down the field with ease. They ended up just crossing the two-minute mark as they covered 89 yards in 2:13 before capping off the drive with a gorgeous 24-yard touchdown pass to wideout Rashard Higgins.

From there, the reserves took over, which honestly is what the preseason is all about as the younger players are out there trying to earn a spot on the roster. Whether it’s a place on the 53-man roster or a starting job, there’s a whole lot up for grabs during the preseason and there were several members of the Browns who made a strong case for themselves on Thursday night.

On the other side of the coin, there were a few who hurt their standings quite a bit. Here we look at three such players who put themselves behind the eightball in their quest for a role on the team in 2019.

As a side note, wide receiver Antonio Callaway will not be one of the players talked about here. While his suspension opens the door for other players to leapfrog him on the depth chart, he didn’t hurt himself at all in the actual game. Here, we look at strictly play.
